Every Child Can!

In the Suzuki method, we believe every child is capable of learning to play music the same way they learn to speak.

From the age of 3 children can begin to play the violin with the careful instruction of their teacher and the loving support of their parent. We aim to teach from the heart, and in turn, create beautiful hearts within each child.

A holistic approach…

At the Sprouting Strings studio, Daisy takes special care in the physical setup of each child, and strives to nurture emotionally intelligent and resilient students throughout their musical education.

Instead of separating the practical from the theoretical, students learn repertoire in combination with music theory and history. By nurturing the whole child, instead of the individual parts, we mold curious minds and create lifelong learners.

The Suzuki Triangle

The Suzuki method is reliant on parent support and involvement in lessons and practices, and modelling behaviour that the child will observe and take with them into adulthood. Suzuki children don’t just learn how to play the violin – they learn how to stay committed to doing something every day, even when it’s hard.

The relationship between the child, parent, and teacher is vital to the success of the child. While the child and teacher work together almost exclusively within the lesson, the parent has the biggest responsibility – recreating the lesson at home.

Parent education is built into the program, but more in-depth, separate classes are available upon request.

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”

Daisy Squires was my son’s very first violin teacher and we have the highest regard for her. She took a complete beginner and turned him into a little fiddler! She is very organized with her lesson plan, receptive to students and parents, and creative in her approach to each child. When my son was young, she incorporated games into the lessons to bring an element of fun. Through all her lessons she has a focus on correct bow hold, technique and good posture. She is a wonderful teacher and talented violinist and has the kind of warmth and personality that appeals to children and adults alike. My son still misses her very much and thinks that “Alberta is very lucky”. I highly recommend her!

Daisy is a kind and encouraging teacher.  She shared her love of music with me.  It was a really good experience being her student.
